[ Sunlight spills in through the window to stretch out and bask on the floorboards like a lazy cat.
The light bounces around the room and gives it a gentle glow, so unlike the Gallows that Athessa can really see the appeal of living on the mainland. Maybe someday. For now, she feels the warmth of sunlight on her eyelids and pulls the blanket up as far as it'll go to block it out. In doing so she draws the edge of the blanket across Colin's nose.
She has curled up against him in her sleep, face smushed against his shoulder and a leg draped over his. And of course, her hair is a mess. ]
[Already half-awake, Colin stirs when the blanket draws across his face. His eyes blink open and he stretches as much as he can without dislodging his sister.]
[ A noble effort, but ultimately for naught as Athessa is dislodged from his shoulder at the slightest movement. Not dislodged from sleep enough to open her eyes, but she rolls over, then scoots closer again so she can still leech his warmth.
Poor Colin. At least it's only in the mornings that Athessa is a bed hog. ]
[Well now Colin's awake. Very gingerly, he extracts himself from the bed so he can start cooking breakfast. It won't take long, just being eggy bread, fruit, and bacon, but he likes having breakfast ready for Athessa before she's up.]
[ Oh well if he's leaving, she'll just become a blanket burrito. After, of course, doing that thing that cats do where they half-heartedly swipe at you when you're walking by. ]
[Colin chuckles and fits the tray over her lap before sitting by her and starting to dish up. There are two mugs filled with dandelion root coffee--tastes nearly the same, doesn't have the caffeine, still very satisfying in the morning.]
Quite well, quite well, [ this, in her fake nobility accent. She takes a sip from one of the mugs, just to whet her beak, and sets it back down. ] and yourself?
Same, [he says around a mouthful of fruit and eggy bread. He chews, swallows.] I mean that I sleep well when you're here, not...
[A weak gesture with his hand to indicate you know what I mean as he picks up his mug and drinks with the other.] When I was a kid, we just had two beds. And there were seven of us, so.
[ Somehow, that hadn't occurred to her as an option. She blinks at what's left of her food, then looks at Colin. He wouldn't joke about this, would he? No. ]
Maybe.
[ It wouldn't be disagreeable, but there's some little feral instinct clutching at the idea of having something of her own, of being in close proximity to other people in the Gallows, even if she would rather not live in a refitted prison.
She smiles, and brushes through his hair with her fingers. ]
[ Another point against it, though: having servants. Having support staff at the Gallows makes sense, considering how vast it is and how many people are there, but here there'd be only two.
It'd be a lot more work to drop in on anyone, but it'd also make it harder for anyone to drop in on her, which isn't always a downside.
As soon as her breakfast is finished, Athessa lays back and gets comfortable again, minding the table so it won't get jostled by her wriggling. ]
I dunno if I could handle living in the lap of luxury very long. I'd probably get lazy. Maybe even go soft around the middle.

She huffs softly and grumbles a little but slowly starts to extract herself from the tangle of blankets and sheets. ]
One of these days I'm gonna— [ yawn ] —spend all day in bed. And it's gonna be great.

[He disappears into the kitchen. A few moments later, he emerges with a standing tray, breakfast for both of them balanced on it.]

Yesssssss!
[ But first: she pats the spot beside her on the bed. His side of the bed. ]

[ Sometimes you don't learn that beds come in different sizes until you're practically an adult. ]

Boys have to sleep alone.
[ She even sounds like she understands. ]

Anyway. I'd got pretty accustomed to sleeping alone after I went to the tower, but this way feel like home. Childhood.

Mm, yeah. I don't think I ever fully got used to it. Probably why it takes so long for me to fall asleep back at the Gallows.

I'll think about it, definitely.

Good. I'd adore having you.
[It gets a bit lonely, living all by himself. Even the servants are often gone by the time he gets home.]
